Youth and Young Adults

Since the founding of the Junior Red Cross in 1917, young people and the Red Cross have been partners. Today, this partnership is more important than ever. Providing young people with comprehensive paths for education and training and volunteer/community service opportunities throughout their lives is a major thrust of the Red Cross. Youth and Young Adults are rising to the challenge.

Youth as young as 14 can take disaster classes and volunteer during responses. Teens ages 14 and 15 must be with a parent. Teens ages 16 and 17 can serve independently.

With the American Red Cross, Young Adults have a wonderful opportunity to not only help their community but shape the community they live in. One of our chapter’s goals is to make our community disaster resistant which means educating our community our making a disaster plan, building a disaster kit, getting trained in CPR/FA, volunteering, and donating blood.

All of our volunteer opportunities listed in Disaster Services, Armed Forces Emergency Services/International Social Services, Health and Safety Services, Community Outreach, and Support Services are open for young adults.

Red Cross Clubs in Schools

Red Cross Clubs are a wonderful way to connect with classmates who want to help our community. We can provide resources and mentors to assist adults who would like to sponsor such a program in schools.
