Bulk Distribution Operations

The interactive course engages participants in scenarios to learn how to apply bulk distribution operations guidance. Participants receive the Bulk Distribution Handbook, which provides tools and information for use on disaster relief operations, chapter responses and in the classroom. The course prepares participants for the roles, responsibilities and tasks involved in setting up, operating and supporting a Bulk Distribution operation in the chapter and on a disaster relief operation nationally.

Disaster Action Team (DAT) Workshop
Prerequisite: Disaster Services: An Overview (DSO)
Date: Tuesday, May 22, 2012
Time: 6-8 p.m.
Location: Louisiana Capital Area Chapter, Classroom 3
In this two-hour course, you will learn how our chapter responds to local disasters, usually single family fires. After completing this course, you will be qualified to become a Disaster Action Team Member responding on behalf of the Red Cross. DAT members complete additional training throughout their first year as a DAT member to enable them to move up to DAT Captain and initiate the response on behalf of the Red Cross for larger events.

Psychological First Aid

Psychological First Aid is an instructor-led, basic-level course that consists of five segments and a self-review questionnaire. The course provides the framework for understanding the factors that affect stress responses in disaster relief workers and the clients they serve. This course qualifies for 0.4 CEU credit under the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) guidelines. Disaster Services: An Overview (DSO) Part 1
Prerequisite: None
Disaster Services: An Overview is a two-part course that provides an introduction to Disaster Services at the American Red Cross. The course engages participants through integrated video and interactive activities. Part 1 is available on the web through our online training program.
1. Start the class now by clicking this link.
2. Click on "New Users" if you have not taken any Red Cross courses before, and then fill in all required fields. When you get to user name, change it to your email address to make it easier to remember.
3. A "Create Order" screen will pop up when you complete the log-in. Go to the bottom right and "Place Order." On the next screen, click on "Launch Content" on the right to get started.

After completing Part 1 online, contact Barbara Bourgeois at bbourgeois@batonrouge.redcross.org or (225) 456-5555 to schedule Part 2, which will be offered several times each month.
FEMA Courses (online only)
To complete the ICS 100 Intro to Incident Command System, ICS 200 Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents, ICS 700 National Incident Management System or ICS 800 National Framework Response, go to FEMA's training website. Scroll down to the course you want to take, click on the course title and the class will open. The system will ask for your name and email address. Be sure to complete all the requested information so you can get copies of your certificates.
Basic Food Safety (online only)
1. Go to this link.
2. Type in your Activation Code when prompted: RedCross (This code is space and case sensitive). Click the "submit" button.
3. Read the instructions under "Is this your first time here?" Click the "Create a new account" button.
4. Enter your DSHR number as your User ID (or create your own if you do not have a DSHR number). Create a unique password and confirm it. The User ID and password you create will be the information that you will use to log in for subsequent training sessions.
5. Enter the requested information and complete the Captcha and then click on the "Create a new account" button.
6. Click "Continue" on the next page to confirm your enrollment.
7. Click the Basic Food Safety course title in either English or Spanish to begin the training.
